Paralegal Webinar & Virtual Networking Event

A free networking event for members of the Institute of Paralegals, legal professionals and law students.

The Institute of Paralegals have established a series of monthly virtual events to provide you with a platform to hear from two guest speakers on a range of topics, ask questions and to connect.

Our free monthly events officially runs for an hour, between 1pm-2pm however you will be able to join the meeting from 12:45pm to allow you time to get settled in and introduce yourself to the group via the chat facility.

Talk 1: “Workplace Harassment – An Introduction”

Synopsis

In this webinar, Simon McCrossan will provide an introductory overview of workplace harassment. Simon will cover the definition of harassment in the Equality Act 2010, the necessary ingredients for a claim of workplace harassment alongside some practical tips.

Speakers

Simon McCrossan, Barrister at Clerksroom

Simon McCrossan is a barrister who specialises in employment disputes. He holds a specialist LL.M in Employment Law (Distinction) and estimates that has advised on over 100 unfair dismissal matters alone for large panel insurers. Simon contributes towards national employment law newsletters and has lectured in this area upon the UK’s largest LL.B programme.

Talk 2: “To Post or Not to Post? Social media use and human rights in the employment context.

Synopsis

Much of the laws around freedom of expression date back to an era before ubiquitous social media use and are not fit guides as to how employers might respond to what we do (or don’t) post in a private capacity on our social media platforms. This website looks at some of the existing case law and discussions around free speech in the context of employment, to provide an overview of current trends and key takeaway points for lawyers, employers, and employees.

Dr. Anna Loutfi, Barrister at Clerksroom

Dr Anna Loutfi is a barrister at Clerksroom (called in 2019). She has a practice in employment, equalities and human rights law and specialises in freedom of expression and discrimination cases.

Anna has a research affiliation with the Dickson Poon School of Law (King’s College London), where she also hosts and produces the legal podcast series, The Verdict, interviewing some of the most important legal practitioners and researchers in the human rights field.
