A free networking event for members of the Institute of Paralegals, legal professionals and law students.

The Institute of Paralegals have established a series of monthly virtual events to provide you with a platform to hear from two guest speakers on a range of topics, ask questions and to connect.

Our free monthly events officially runs for an hour, between 1pm-2pm however you will be able to join the meeting from 12:45pm to allow you time to get settled in and introduce yourself to the group via the chat facility.

Talk 1 : D&I: the bottom up approach

In this talk,  Pippa Marler , Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Weightmans LLP will be sharing how as an individual you can make an impact on D&I.  At a time when it can seem like the higher echelons of global society and governments are repealing the rights and liberties of minority groups we must remember the powerful role that corporates and individuals play in the progress of diversity and inclusion in society.

Talk 2: How to Successfully Market Your Legal Practice -“Critical mistakes you could be making on your legal website which are costing you clients”. - Rachel Tombs, Orion Legal Marketing

Knowing and understanding your ideal target market will save you extensive time and money. Rachel Tombs, a leading legal marketeer and owner of Orion Legal Marketing,  will share with you exclusively some of the secrets on how to build a client focused website.

In this talk, Rachel will run through some of the most common mistakes that lawyers make on their websites which leads to less enquiries.

She is a firm believer that your website SHOULD be more than an online brochure and CAN earn its keep by converting those visitors into enquiries through a number of considered marketing strategies.

About the Speakers

Pippa Marler , Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Weightmans LLP

Diversity is about who we are, where we come from, how we live and work. Our backgrounds shape our view of the world, and how we respond to situations and challenges. The wider the diversity of thought approaching a question, the more well-rounded the response will be.

Having navigated an eighteen-year career as costs lawyer, technical auditor and in-house legal recruiter, Pippa’s move into the role of Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Weightmans was born out her passion for equality and diversity across all areas of the industry and across all strands including BAME, LGBTQ+, Gender and Disability and Mental Wellbeing. While recruiting for the business she saw a need for more focus on D&I which led to the creation of the role for the first Diversity and Inclusion Lead at Weightmans.   Pippa coordinates the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Steering Group and oversees implementation of the diversity and inclusion strategies with the support of 46 Diversity and Inclusion Champions placed across the business.

Rachel Tombs, Orion Legal Marketing

Rachel Tombs was a practising Solicitor for 15 years within both large city firms and smaller regional practices. During her legal career, Rachel became involved in the marketing and business development work that was being undertaken by the various firms in which she worked. She quickly discovered that effective marketing could deliver exceptional results for all legal professionals who want to attract new clients and grow their practices.
